Unfortunately it was only my first meeting with the Swedish guys, even though A single... is their third release after the self-titled debut and the following Noara Dance EP. It is said that the third album is a watershed in the life of a band: it could be at Mammoth´s too, because this book of songs contains really fully-fledged, variegated, wrought and atmospheric compositions. Something like 70´s-oriented retro rock with hot grooves, cool riffs and filled with many experimental stuff: easy, solid and jazzy moments, and more keyboards and less distortion compared to the earlier, as they say. Influenced by bands like Yes, The Doors, and King Crimson, their music is as powerful and heavy as thought provoking, experimental and moody. It is something totally different and unique, but traditional and known as well... With their magical soundscapes they overstepped the so-called groove/psychedelic/hard/retro-rock boundaries. A brilliant album, I recommend it to all open-minded rock music lovers. Contact: mael5631@hem.passagen.se; www.stonerrock.com/mammothvolume (PC)
