Philly's winners of the coveted "most stoned band in the land"
award is back with the highly anticipated "Dilate."  I was reading insome e-zine thing about how the "whole genre of experimental noise ishighly suspect," and the reviewer used Bardo Pond and more specificallythis album as an example of what's supposedly wrong with it.  Funnything is, I can agree with the sentiment.  I just would've been morelikely to use someone like Mogwai (who I do like) as an example. Anyone that knows his/her shit is aware of the ripples that these kidshave been making in the collective mind of adventurous music fans foryears now, and to treat them as just another group cashing in on thetrend is insulting, not to mention just plain idiotic.  Part of BP'sappeal has always been the sloppy delivery of full review Broken Face

Set and Setting is one of the more varied albums of Bardo Pond. It starts with a ten minute "stoner" stand-out,"Walking stick man", then it returns to the noisy sound of "Lapsed" with the song "This time". The last piece of side 1, "Datura", is a great hypnotic instrumental which reminds Amon Duul II's "Tanz der lemminge". Side 2 alternates noisy and Hypnotic songs like side 1. In this Lp the flute has been abandoned, and the violin has taken his place. This is one of their best albums, together with "Amanita". Matteo Cioci
