Abunai quits!
We are all sorry about this, but when it's gone it's over. Otherwise there will be a continuation with the members. So watch out for future releases:
- Brendan has a folk project called Giants Dance that he'd started a few years ago.
- Brendan had also started a side project called The Squall while Abunai! was still together. Joe filled in on drums at first, and has now stayed on with them.
- I'am (Kris) planning a recording project based on some sessions that Bobb Trimble and Abunai! had begun together under the name Flyin' Lion.
- There may still be some combination of Abunai! members getting together
again (besides The Squall); we'll have to wait and see.

Ich bin wirklich erstaunt, dass man diese EP überhaupt noch kaufen kann. Nicht zögern, allein die 15 minütige Rückseite ist ein absolutes psychedelisches Highlight. "... takes the listener on a trip to the deepest and most star filled reaches of space...", "Truly beautiful and totally trippy." schreibt Aural Innovations und ich kann dem nichts mehr zufügen als den guten Rat: SOFORT KAUFEN!!!!! Betti

Abunai wollten wohl auch mal was anderes machen. Betti

For their 3rd full length Boston psych rockers took many hours of instrumental improv tapes to weave a seamless collage out of them. Thus they created a sound that is similar to psychedelic Krautrock improvisation ca. 1970. Buy record at ( CD currently not in stock ) Greatest Hits Mailorder (D) ändern

Mario

The second outing from Bostonian quartet Abunai! should have
been reviewed in the last Broken Face issue if it hadn't been for anaccidental lack of internal communications. "Oh, I thought you did thatone" was the simultaneous comment from two different parts of the world. So please excuse us for the delay in putting "The Mystic River Sound"under the microscope for further examination. To get an idea whereAbunai!'s supersonic route of neo-psychedelia is going you could saythey are to the Byrds and Fairport Convention what the Spacemen 3 wereto the Stooges and MC5, which means they're space rock, but the songsare often based on British folk or old psych pop styles. Like theirshimmering take on Brit-folk traditional "Barbara Allen" with swirlingand groaning keyboard sounds from Kris

Boston foursome's fine 2nd longplayer extends their Krautrock/noise folk/space pop mix through an ability of realized songwriting. "Mystic river sound" ranges from melodic spacefolk with subtle noises ("Barbara Allen", "Sweet William", traditionals also done by Fairport Convention) to jangly swirling rock sounds and lysergic improvisations, influenced by the 60's Paisley Underground, neo psychedelia and British Creation label style pop sounds. For some songs imagine a Rain Parade/Wayne Rogers cooperation. Buy record at ( CD currently not in stock ) Greatest Hits Mailorder (D) ändern

from The Wire (UK), issue #167, Jan. 1998:
Soundcheck: In Brief: Out Rock:
"Abunai! (Japanese for 'look out!', apparently) offset their whirling guitar maelstrom with folk rock elements (including a fine cover of Richard Thompson's "Calvary Cross") and acoustic lyricism. At times they recall the hallucinatory quality of Fairport Convention's groundbreaking "A Sailor's Life", and also throw in an extract of "Maggot Brain" for good measure." (Tom Ridge)

Boston 4-piece. 90's psych: everything from space rock jams to densely textured collisions between folk lyricism and acid-fried guitar squail. Buy record at ( CD currently not in stock ) Greatest Hits Mailorder (D) ändern
