This goes back a little bit to the October 20, 1999 gig at the Knitting Factory in New York City, but I thought folks might enjoy a little taste of what it was like to experience the Frond in a live setting:

Well, the mystery is finally over. Having spent the better part of the last decade running up the tab on that capitalist plot to take over the world (plastic money) by hunting "high" and low for Mr. Saloman's recorded output, the missing ingredient in the total experience has always been not catching Nick & Ade in a live setting. Last night's performance (the final stop on their whirlwind 4 1/2 week North American tour) at New York's Knitting Factory put a huge exclamation mark on the oft-quoted mantra, "Yeah, 'their' records are great, but you gotta catch them live!" Das ist die 19. Bevis Frond Platte und man müsste meinen, dass Nick Saloman die Ideen ausgehen, aber das scheint nun gar nicht so zu sein. Hit Squad ist noch facettenreicher als die Vorgänger. Rockballaden, Catchy Tunes, Spacerock und ein mäandernder psychedelischer Ausklang. Die Drums spielt jetzt Jules Fenton, Bass wie immer Ade Shaw, dazu einige Gäste. Sehr empfehlenswert! Betti

Eine neues Monsterwerk von unserem Lieblingspsychedeliker. Sehr überraschend lag sie letztens beim Gig in Berlin auf dem Verkaufstresen, immerhin 2 Wochen vor dem offiziellen Termin. Den Fan freut es, die Händler sind sauer, but who cares.
Im Titelstück nimmt Nick sich wohl selbst auf die Schippe, als Rockfossil, was er aber keineswegs ist. Auch diese Scheibe ist wieder randvoll mit göttlichen Solis, emotional bis an den Rand des menschenmöglichen ausgeschöpft. Unverzichtbar! alie

So here it is. The long awaited (by some) follow up to Valedictory Songs.
I'm truly delighted with this record. I feel it's the best thing I've ever
done in terms of songs and performance. Having said that, I always feel like
that when I put a new album out.
However, this time everyone who's heard it seems to agree with me, so it
might be true! I recorded it at Gold Dust with Colin Andrews engineering and
co-producing. Ade played bass and Andy Ward did the drumming. There are also
great contributions from Bari Watts, Paul Simmons and my lovely sprog Deb. I
think it's a bit more varied than previous albums. There's some straight
acoustic stuff, a batch of kicking toons, and also some pretty ambitious
lengthy pieces. All in all, a bit of a corker, though I say full review alie

Jede Platte ist wie ein Brief von einem alten Freund, der erzählt, wie es ihm seit dem letzten Treffen ergangen ist. Alles klingt vertraut und doch lauscht man gespannt den Neuigkeiten. In Nick Saloman's Bevis Frond spielen wie gewohnt Adrian Shaw Bass und Andy Ward Drums. Auch Bari Watts ist auf einem Stück zu hören. Neues Jahr, neue Scheibe, neue Tour, zufriedene und glückliche Fans. Auf solch einen einfachen Nenner sind Nick Salomans Veröffentlichungen zu bringen. Wieder hat er die Plackerei mit Gesang und allen Instrumenten selbst übernommen. Lediglich ein paar einleitende Worte von einer knappen halben Minute sind Altmeister Country Joe Mc Donald gegönnt. Musikalisch hat sich gottlob nichts verändert, so daß sich Vavona Burr nahtlos an die 14 bisherigen Bevis Frond Meisterwerke anfügt. Mehr braucht an dieser Stelle über den leider immer noch nicht gekrönten König der Neopsychedelic nicht verbraten werden - wird ja auch langsam langweilig, ständig die wunderbarsten Gitarrensolos über den grünen Hanf weg zu loben.
